Welcome to Kawaiahaʻo Church, one of the most sacred and historically significant sites in all of Hawaii. Established in 1837, this Georgian-style congregational church has played an integral role in the community and the history of Oahu for over 180 years.
Our guided tours will take you back in time as you learn about the church's origins and its deep cultural significance. Built by early Calvinist missionaries and Native Hawaiians, Kawaiahaʻo Church was the first permanent western-style house of worship in the Hawaiian Islands. It served as a rallying point for Native Hawaiians during the Kingdom period and became a symbol of Hawaiian cultural identity, language, and independence.
