How much time should you allow for the zoo grounds?

How much time should you allow for the zoo grounds?

The zoo covers 42 acres, so leave time to move between its different areas. The African Savanna, Reptile Complex, Bird Sanctuary, Orchid Garden, Picnic Lawn and Keiki Zoo are among the grounds and attractions. Animals may be off exhibit or not visible during your visit.

If you want a guided visit, tours run during regular zoo hours and last 45–60 minutes. Each tour is limited to 25 guests and costs $75 per tour, separate from admission. The zoo’s free app includes a GPS-enabled map, animal profiles, conservation information, keeper-chat schedules and real-time alerts.

Keep to pathways, stay off railings and fences, and don’t tap on glass, cross barriers or feed animals. The zoo prohibits alcohol, balloons, bicycles, drones, pets, scooters and skateboards, as well as smoking and feeding animals.

What can you combine with a visit to Kapiʻolani Park?

What can you combine with a visit to Kapiʻolani Park?

Kapiʻolani Park is right beside the zoo, so you can add time in its open green space before or after your visit. The city took responsibility for the park in 1914, when its director began collecting animals “for the children of Hawaiʻi.” Honolulu Zoo has been a destination since 1947.

From Halekulani, Honolulu Zoo is about a 27-minute walk or a 5-minute drive. Its setting beside Kapiʻolani Park makes the green space a natural nearby pairing.

The zoo’s location makes it easy to pair a visit with other Waikīkī outings.
